About me

Hello, my name is Rolain. I am currently based in the city of Edinburgh and I have a diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy. I am registered with the BACP and am currently working towards accreditation. Below is a list of additional personal development courses I have attended:

  • BASK Dissociated Self Injury & Eating Disorders, 2013
  • Vicarious Trauma, 2013
  • Introduction to Chair Work Theory 2013
  • Child Protection Training, 2014
  • Childhood Abuse: The Long-Term Effects, 2015
  • Coaching Skills for Counsellors, 2016
  • Assist Suicide Prevention Introduction Training, 2017
  • EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy) Counselling Training Level 1, 2017

As part of my training and in conjunction with Safe Space in Dunfermline, I have worked with survivors of sexual abuse. That experience has helped me to meet a diverse clientele, in age, sexual orientation and traumas experienced. After graduating, I volunteered and later worked with a range of youth-based organisations, including Trinity Academy School, The Junction and Edinburgh Young Carers. As a private practitioner at The Edina Studio, I have worked with adults from various backgrounds.

My life experiences and the emotionally struggles I have coped with, have given me a rich body of knowledge, while acknowledging the impact of processing personal issues, such as depression, dissociation, trauma, anxiety, and bereavement to name a few. Both the receiving and the giving of therapy has helped my personal development, as well as the acdemic training stated on this site.

In my practice I feel I have a natural sense for several therapy methods, such as Self-Compassion, Grounding, Art & Creative Writing but especially the Person-Centred approach, all of which help to support the process of change or acceptance.

What I can offer you

Identifying that clients can have different requirements when it comes to receiving therapy, I am more than happy to offer short or long-term, face to face sessions. I am comfortable working via Skype and have found this method to be very effective. If you are unable to travel, I may be able to do a home visit, this would need to be explored and negotiated.

Below are examples of issues that I have worked with in the past, the list is not exhaustive, so if you are dealing with an issue that does not appear on this list, please still get in touch:

  • Abuse
  • Anger Management
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Depression
  • Dissociation
  • Emotional Abuse
  • Low Self-Confidence
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Passive Aggressive Behaviour
  • Physical Abuse
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Stress
  • Suicidal Thoughts
  • Trauma
  • Work Related Stress

What Is Counselling / Psychotherapy?
How Might it Help You?

In laymen's terms, counselling (or psychotherapy) is an opportunity to explore issues in your life, whether they be from the past or the present moment. The process will offer a chance for you to be truly heard and understood. This may help you to obtain greater knowledge and better awareness of yourself and the environment you live in. It may change the way you see things, which, in turn, could help you change the relationship you have with the issues you bring. Changing your view will help you to explore solutions to those issues, and it will help you to learn strategies to better cope with the issues you may be facing.
